Therese Hughes, DNP, APRN, CPNP-AC/PC, is a dual-certified pediatric nurse practitioner in primary and acute care. She currently serves as a member of the Advanced Illness Management (AIM) Team, a hospital-based pediatric palliative care program within the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Prior to joining Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Therese worked as a registered nurse at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She also worked as a medical-surgical nurse and charge nurse at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh.
Therese earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Her doctoral project, “Implementation of a Firearm Screening Protocol in a Primary Care Pediatric Facility,” focused on improving pediatric preventive care through the implementation of an evidence-based quality improvement initiative. She also completed a post-graduate Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate, earning national board certification as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Acute Care (CPNP-AC). In addition, she is nationally certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care (CPNP-PC).
An active member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) since 2022, Therese is committed to advancing pediatric nursing through professional service, advocacy, and lifelong learning. She is passionate about providing compassionate, family-centered care for children with complex and serious illnesses.
